William Hill & Son of Tottenham Court Road built the organ in 1882, which had three manuals and pedals with 34 speaking stops and cost approximately £1,000.
In 1908 Hele & Co. of Plymouth rebuilt the organ and added the fourth manual, the Solo; thus enlarging the instrument to 52 speaking stops. In 1936 Rushworth & Dreaper, of Liverpool, rebuilt and revoiced the organ.
By the late 1960’s the organ was in need of rebuilding and in 1972 J.W. Walker Ltd of Ruislip Gardens completed an extensive rebuild and tonal alteration of the instrument. Included in this work was the creation of a new Positive Organ playable from the Choir keyboard.
